Every summer, people stand along the waterfront at Tuck’s Point and watch sailboats move across Manchester Harbor with a familiar thought: I’ve always wanted to learn how to do that.
For many adults, sailing can seem difficult to begin. It’s easy to assume you need prior experience, your own boat, or years of nautical knowledge before getting started. MSA’s June Learn to Sail Week is designed to make that first step approachable, structured, and fun!

Held Monday through Friday, June 8 to 12, 2026, from 5 to 8 PM, this five-evening class is designed for adults with little or no prior experience eager to learn the fundamentals of sailing on beautiful Manchester Harbor. Instruction starts with the fundamentals:
What makes sailboats move
Safety aboard and at sea
Fundamental sailing terminology and techniques
Basic steering and boat handling
Rigging
Basic sail theory and tuning
Most importantly, participants spend substantial time actively sailing—not simply observing from the sidelines. By the end of the week, participants are typically steering, trimming sails, and working confidently as part of a crew.
Unlike programs that meet only once per week, June Learn to Sail Week creates continuity and momentum. Skills introduced on Monday are reinforced on Tuesday. Mistakes made on Wednesday are corrected on Thursday. By Friday, participants have accumulated meaningful time on the water over one short week!
MSA operates from Tuck’s Point at the mouth of Manchester Harbor, one of the most scenic and practical sailing locations on the North Shore. Within minutes of leaving the dock, sailors reach open water and steady sea-breeze conditions ideal for learning. Evening sessions frequently conclude with spectacular harbor sunsets and calm summer conditions that make Adult Sailing classes at MSA especially memorable.
