Program Director
Our Program Director oversees the daily sailing programs and manages the instructors. Our Senior Instructors typically have had prior coaching experience, some collegiate sailing experience, and have Level I US Sailing Certification or higher. In addition to our senior instructors, the program also has a number of Junior Instructors who assist Senior Instructors and fill in where applicable.
Doug Nebel This is my ninth year as Director of MSA. Originally from New Jersey, I grew up sailing Duckboats (basically a twelve-foot Sneakbox) and Lasers on the ultracompetitive Barnegat Bay. I graduated from the University of Vermont in 1991 with an Economics degree. After many years of sales and marketing, I went back to school at Lesley University to earn my Masters in education and, most recently, my Principal Certification. Working as a teacher opened up the summers and, after directing the Bay Head Yacht Club's sailing program in 2000 and 2001, I landed at MSA in the summer of 2002. I am currently an Assistant Principal at the Joyce Middle School in Woburn. MSA has been a great place to work and sail, 10-foot tides notwithstanding, and I feel that we are off to our best season yet.

Alex Arntsen (420 Race Coach) I am very excited to be returning for my second summer coaching the 420 Race Team. I started sailing here in Manchester when I was 8, and continued in the program on the MSA Opti and 420 teams. I was also Captain of the Manchester- Essex High School Sailing Team that I was part of for 6 seasons. As a skipper on that team, I won the Mass Bay High School Team Race Championship. I have just finished my Sophomore year at the University of Vermont, where I am studying Ecological Design, Natural Resources and Political Science. I spend most of my free time in Vermont skiing and sailing. This past year I skippered for the Catamounts on both the womenʼs and the coed teams.
Theo Ingram (Opti Race Coach) I come from a very active sailing family in New Jersey. My dad grew up sailing on the Shrewsbury River and my mother on the sister river, the Navesink. Somehow they ended up buying a house in between the two, where I grew up. From a very young age I was always out on my own in Turnabouts, then Opti's, and finally Lasers. Every summer during high school was spent traveling around the country with my father competing at every regatta we could make it to. In the course of two summers I made it to over 40 regattas, at most of which I made it to the podium. In college there wasn't as much opportunity to sail single-handed dinghies, so I picked up the FJ at the University of Vermont. For four years our team struggled through the toughest sailing district in the country to finally make it to Collegiate Nationals my Junior year. Overall, I have found sailing to be a rewarding and fulfilling sport that I plan on continuing for the rest of my life, and will try to pass on what knowledge I have along the way.
Kristy Landsvik (Opti Green Fleet Coach) This is my third summer as a senior instructor at MSA and my second season as Opti green race coach. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Vermont where I am a business major with a double concentration in marketing and management and the environment. I am on the UVM sailing team, which is impressively ranked 12th in the nation among college sailing teams. We just qualified for the college sailing championships in June! I have traveled to several regattas in the past year, the most recent one being a BU trophy where the UVM Catamounts placed 1st and 2nd overall. I grew up learning to sail through the MSA program and raced for several years on the Opti and 420 race teams. I was also a member of the Manchester-Essex High School sailing team for six years (including middle school) and a captain for one. While I was a captain, the team won the Mass Bay High School Team Race Championship. Last summer I passed the US Sailing Level II Coaching certification. I am looking forward to a fun summer on the water!
Annalee Leggett (420 Green Fleet Coach) I am looking forward to my third summer working at MSA and first year as senior instructor. I just finished my freshman year as an International Political Economy major in the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. At school, I am an A and B division crew on the Georgetown Varsity Sailing Team, currently ranked 3rd in the nation. This year I competed in fleet and team racing regattas in 420s and FJs on the east coast. I learned to race Optis and 420s at Larchmont Yacht Club on Long Island Sound and continued my 420 Junior Racing through high school at MSA. Off the water, I love skiing, running, yoga and spending time with my two sisters (both MSA sailors). I am psyched to be coming back to Tucks Point for another amazing summer at MSA!
Shannon Walker I am looking forward to my second summer as a senior instructor at MSA! For my whole life I have been around sailboats, including my familyʼs Rhodes 19 and Columbia Saber. I learned to sail in the MSA program, from Mates to Race Team. Of the eight summers I was on the race team, four were in Optis and four in 420s. I was also a junior instructor for three years before becoming a senior instructor. I graduated from Beverly High School in 2009 and am now a rising sophomore at Dickinson College where I study political science and environmental studies. I am excited for another eventful summer at MSA!
Monica Adler This is my first year as a senior instructor and my fourth working at MSA. I grew up sailing at MSA, starting as a Mate and working my way up to the 420 race team. My family owns a 32 foot cruising boat that I have sailed on every summer growing up. I competed on the Manchester-Essex High School race team and the MSA 420 race team for three years each. I love being near the ocean so I am also a lifeguard. Other activities that I enjoy include swimming, running, and tutoring. I just graduated Beverly High School and will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall. I love to sail and look forward to sharing it with my classes this summer!
Mikki Rosmarin This is my first year as a senior instructor at MSA! My love for sailing started back when I was an Ensign in the learn-to sail programs at MSA, and soon moved on to racing 420's for two years. Although this is my first year as a senior instructor, this will be my third year teaching at MSA. I currently attend college at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where I will be a sophomore in the fall.
Nicole Rosmarin Although this is my first year as a senior instructor at MSA, I am looking forward to my ninth summer with the program. I started learn to sail classes back in 2001 as an Ensign. The following summer, and two summers after that, I was in Skippers. I then moved onto Mariners before joining the 420 race team for two years while junior instructing. I am a rising sophomore at Furman University in South Carolina. There is no body of water remotely close to Furman, so I don't get to do much sailing. I'm so happy to be back in Manchester and excited for MSA 2010!
