Coronavirus Update

Hello MSA sailors and families,

Sailing starts June 22. We can't wait! We are extremely excited to be running a program this summer and know it will be a fantastic opportunity for all participants to enjoy being on the water, learn independence and responsibility, and gain skills in the lifelong sport of sailing.

We've given a great deal of thought to how we operate our summer sailing program safely. As with everything these days, adjustments are needed, and we will adapt.

Please access a more detailed current Coronavirus adjustments to our operational plan. This is important to read. A few takeaways:

  • MSA will have the normal 4 sets of 2 week sessions. We will be offering lower student count and different classes than we normally do. Please see http://www.manchestersailing.org/page/classes for details on the new classes as well as the auto-enrolled mapping. REGISTRATION WILL RE-OPEN ON THURSDAY JUNE 4th!
  • If you have already signed up for a class other than Adult Sailing or Sea Urchin you will be auto-enrolled in the appropriate new class. Also, if you have already enrolled, please look for a communication from Dominque Donovan (MSA Board Member) who can help answer any specific questions you might have.
  • Unfortunately, given the need for continued social distancing, MSA will not be able to offer adult sailing classes or the Sea Urchin program this summer. If you have signed up for either of those classes, you will automatically receive a full refund. This will be processed within the next week.
  • While all major C420 and Opti regattas have been cancelled, for race team participants, we are actively looking for informal meet-on-the-water racing opportunities with local clubs and programs. Race team members and parents will be hearing more about this as we know more.
  • The response to COVID-19 is continuously changing, and what we've outlined here will probably change, too. Acceptance of both risk and change are both a prerequisite of participation in the program. We will all work together to have a safe and healthy summer.
  • Program fees are refundable, on a pro-rated basis, if the program must be cancelled mid-season. We don't know what the future holds, and while we are hopeful that we will operate the program for the full season, we recognize that is something we cannot guarantee.
  • At this time, we cannot gather inside, so if there is a rainy or inclement weather day, or morning, or afternoon, we will not hold classes. A light drizzle won't stop sailing, but a forecast of thunderstorms will. We will make those decisions on a daily and even hourly basis.
  • Face coverings will be required for all sailors and instructors on shore, and when they cannot be "physically distant" from each other. MSA will provide a free buff, or neck gaiter, to each sailor and instructor. They look cool, they are lightweight, they can get wet, they can get washed, and they also are great in the sun!

We are excited for summer, and we look forward to getting back out on the water! Any questions, or if we can do anything to help out our MSA family, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Manchester Sailing Association Board of Directors
